Founded in 2014, the Canadian Wild Turkey Federation is a volunteer-based conservation organization built on grassroots commitment and a growing national community of members who care deeply about wildlife, habitat, and the outdoor traditions that connect Canadians to nature. From humble beginnings, the CWTF has grown into a recognized voice for wild turkey conservation in Canada—driven by stewardship, collaboration, and a belief that conservation succeeds when people are engaged, informed, and invested in the landscapes they depend on and enjoy.

The CWTF exists to support the establishment, restoration, protection, and sustainable management of wild turkey populations and the habitats that sustain them. While wild turkeys remain our primary focus, our work also contributes to healthier ecosystems that benefit a wide variety of wildlife species, from forest and grassland birds to the broader communities of plants and animals that share these environments. Through habitat conservation, responsible management, and practical on-the-ground action, we strive to strengthen biodiversity and protect the natural systems that support both wildlife and people.

We are committed to science-based conservation and responsible decision-making that reflects the best available information and real-world conditions across Canada’s diverse regions. By supporting monitoring and research, gathering field observations, and bringing together knowledgeable partners—including wildlife managers, biologists, and experienced practitioners—we help identify emerging challenges, improve management strategies, and contribute to effective conservation outcomes. We also work collaboratively with government agencies, organizations, landowners, and the public to advance meaningful projects that protect habitat, address conflict, and support sustainable wildlife populations.

Equally important to our mission is the preservation and promotion of Canada’s hunting heritage through education, mentorship, and ethical outdoor practices. The CWTF supports safe, responsible hunting and wildlife-oriented recreation as powerful tools for conservation, public engagement, and long-term stewardship. We aim to reduce barriers to outdoor participation by encouraging respectful access, fostering inclusion, and creating positive experiences that strengthen the relationship between Canadians and the natural world—especially for youth, women, and new participants seeking knowledge and community in the outdoors.

Looking ahead, the Canadian Wild Turkey Federation is committed to building a future where wild turkeys remain a thriving, well-managed part of Canada’s wildlife landscape, where habitat continues to improve through active stewardship, and where conservation remains rooted in science, partnership, and public trust. We will continue expanding our capacity to support modern wildlife management, strengthen collaboration with agencies and stakeholders, and empower volunteers to deliver meaningful conservation outcomes on the ground. Above all, we recognize that lasting conservation depends on the people who carry it forward—mentoring today for a brighter tomorrow, so wildlife, habitat, and outdoor traditions remain strong, sustainable, and accessible for generations to come.
