Thank you for participating in the New Brunswick Winter Turkey Flock Survey.
1: On what date did you observe this flock?
2: How many turkeys did you observe in the flock? (Note - please do not report the same flock more than once)
3: How many mature male turkeys did you observe in the flock? Distinguishing characteristics of male turkeys include the presence of a "beard" protruding from their chest, spurs at the base of the legs, and dark iridescent plumage. Females are smaller in size, have more muted/dull colours, lack spurs, and typically lack a beard.
4: Nearest town / Ville la plus proche
5. Wildlife management zone (WMZ) / Zone d’aménagement de la faune (ZAF) 1
6: What type of habitat best describes the area where you saw the turkey flock?
7: Were the turkeys you saw feeding? If yes, what were they feeding on?
8: DISEASE MONITORING - Avian pox has been confirmed in New Brunswick; Lymphoproliferative Disease Virus (LPDV) has not yet been reported in the province, but has been confirmed in neighbouring Québec. Both viruses exhibit similar symptoms and include wart-like, yellow protuberances around the neck and head area.
Did any of the turkeys you observed have these symptoms? If yes, please specify the number of symptomatic turkeys observed.
9: Perception: Rate your feelings about wild turkeys on a scale from 1 to 5.
10: If this flock is observed regularly on your property, would you consider allowing the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development (NB DNRED) and/or CWTF personnel to trap and leg band turkeys on your property as part of wild turkey research projects? All trapped wild turkeys will be released on location immediately following banding.
